Matariki

Matariki

Once there lived a man called Ko te whakaaro nui. And he had seven sons that he were so proud of. One was called Kaha the oldest means power, One called Maramarama means intelligent, One called Te kino means evil, One called Atawhai means kind, One called Kāhua means style, one called Wahangu means dumb and the youngest Taitamariki means young.
Ko te tangata whakaaro nui gave his seven sons the best life. One day he said to his sons mo te ika haere go for a fish so Kaha said hopui te waka grab the canoe. So they sailed out to sea they threw down the anchor and Ko te tangata whakaaro nui was watching them suddenly a giant fish appeared and swallowed the boat whole and when Ko te tangata whakaaro nui saw it, he was so sad he went on his knees and said a karakia atua e manaaki ia ratou e hiahia ana ahau te tahi mea ki te mahara ratou god bless them I want something to remember them and up in the sky he heard the karakia and gave him seven stars to remember them and every year we celebrate Matariki.
